I know that after three years of living in Calgary that I should be used to seeing the orange barrels, three lanes squished down to one and the occasional closure throughout the city…but today was just totally insane.
I picked up my girlfriend and her niece and nephew way down in the SW and had to get across the city to Calaway Park – about 4 minutes out-of-town to the NW. There are a few ways to take a direct route from the South to 16th ave (Trans-Canada Highway) and EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM were either closed or had major construction enough to have to detour traffic.
Basically it was impossible to get from just south of Chinook Mall to ANYWHERE in the NW of the city without having to be diverted off of Glenmore West, Crowchild North, 14th St. North and even Elbow Drive North…We ended up taking Elbow Drive onto Sifton and were diverted through Royal Oak due to construction. Then we drove down through Marda Loop (full of construction) and onto Crowchild where it was a single lane from the Bow trail (east) ramp all the way to Kensington ave…
It was enough for me to want to consider leaving this city. I have been patient but enough is enough…Does Santa Monica California have lots of road work? I wonder….
