Saint Patrick’s Day

Posted by: j3r3my In: Beer

irishdrinkerIf you’re looking to have some good micro-brews this lovely St. Paddy’s day, here are some suggestions to help you not have the hangover of death from drinking all that Bud or Canadian…

Alexander Keith’s – it’s a no-brainer. It’s on tap most places in Calgary and since there’s no preservatives and brewed to standard you aren’t downing a ton of chemicals with each sip you take.

Bowen Island Irish Cream Ale – Finally available at Calgary Coop Liquor Stores, this is a creamy, hoppy, easy-to-drink beer that surely fits the Irish Celebration that is St. Paddy’s Day. Currently available in its distinctive yellow six-pack of cans this beer is a winner that I first tried at the Great Canadian Beer Festival last year.

Paddock Wood Czech-Mate – An amazing unfiltered true Czech Pilsner brewed in Saskatchewan. Using only the finest (and I mean finest, the Paddock Wood Brewery is one of the top suppliers of brewing supplies in Canada) ingredients available, the first time I tried this beer I was blown away. Definitely in my top 5 beers made-in-Canada for sure!  This is also available at most Calgary Coop Liquor Stores.

Wildwood Oatmeal Stout – A true stout that stands out amongst its peers like Guinness, this (very) small batch brew is brewed with over 6 different malts and has flavours ranging from Vanilla to Chocolate and Licorice. Only available at the Wildwood Pub in Calgary, go have some with a plate of fish&chips downstairs in the pub – you’ll thank me later!

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day and I’ll see you in the pub!

Cheers!
