Great post – I think I have to grab my passport and my favorite stein and go traveling!
A few of these I’ve heard of and even sampled but most of them are new and by the looks of things very interesting. Of note for me would be “Lewis and Clark Brewing Company” and the “Ale Asylum”… What and awesome name for a brewery!

Cheers,
The Premier line of Sleeman Beers namely the Indian Pale Ale and the Fine Porter were re-designed by Dossier Creative. The rebranding was featured on the Lovely Package blog and shows off how great this creative really is.
The truly great thing is that the beauty of the packaging helps accentuate the awesomeness of this beer. The Porter was a popular choice in my house at Christmas and the IPA is another good choice for those summer day sessions on the porch with friends.
Sleeman’s beer is available across Canada at your favorite liquor distributor.
Cheers!

It turns out that one of my favorite beers from the Beer Festival in Victoria last summer won a gold-medal at the Okanagan Fest of Ale.
Perhaps one of the most amazing wheat beers I’ve ever had has finally been given the attention it deserves. This beer is a seasonal variety made available every summer by Tree Brewery and is available across BC and Alberta.
If you haven’t made it out yet to either the Fest of Ale or the Great Canadian Beer Festival (GCBF), I highly recommend you take some time and check out either one of these amazing events. Unlike many beer festivals out there, these promote micro-brewing in Canada and the U.S. and many of the major breweries are nowhere to be found. It’s a great way to see what small companies out there are doing to make better beer and educate people on the difference quality makes in brewing.
Tree participates in most of the events I attend including the GCBF as well as the Calgary Coop Grape Escape. They are one of my favorite breweries and if you are headed through the BC Interior at all this summer make sure to swing through Kelowna and stop by for a pint at Tree Brewing!

My Dad mentioned that he’d had an incredible pint of beer from “Driftwood Brewing” – a new brewery making small-batch brewed beers in Victoria. I did a little research and Driftwood indeed has some very interesting beers in their line-up such as the Farmhand Ale, the Blackstone Porter and the Brother Bart’s Brown Ale.
Unfortunately none of these beers are available in Alberta, but I will add a review to this post after my island trip in August, and bring some home for the folks lucky enough to join me on my patio!
The brewery was founded in the spring of 2008 by Jason Meyer and Kevin Hearsum and they have five beers available on tap and in six-packs around the Province of B.C. Check out their site at: http://driftwoodbeer.com/
Stay tuned for reviews! Cheers.

I finally got the chance to make it down to Wild Rose Brewery on Friday night to try the new Special Old Bitter English Ale and the Wred Wheat Ale. I was hoping to also try their latest seasonal, the Czech Pilsner, but they sold out of this hoppy brew in less than two weeks…
The Special Old Bitter, or S.O.B. as its labeled, is definitely a winner. I loved the fact that it’s not too bitter despite the name and goes down way too smooth… As the description says:
Golden-bronze colour and light in body, Wild Rose S.O.B. is delicately hopped and refreshingly delicious. Very gentle and approachable, this classic English ale is an excellent choice to enjoy as a “session beer.” - 4.1% alc./vol.
The Wred Wheat ale was a surprise. I was expecting something in the same neighbourhood as Rickard’s Red or even the Alexander Keiths Red Amber Ale…. I was wrong. This beer has an incredibly smooth flavour that makes it really tough to put the glass down and take a breather. With way more flavour than the two previously mentioned beers, this for sure will be one of my top 3 “Patio Beers” for this summer. The Wred Wheat ale’s description:
From the distinctive red-amber hues, to aromas of biscuits and a sweetness of caramel, this beer is not to be taken lightly. Wild Rose WRed Wheat is hand crafted, striking a fine balance between malt and hops. The final result is a beer that is crisp, clean and refreshing. - 5.0% alc./vol.
Both of these beers are available at any Calgary Coop Liquor Store and of course down at The Wild Rose Brewery Taproom. Go down and have a pint!
